Literal Translation:

Overview:

Yamato Damashii - "Fighting Spirit"

Literal Translation:

"Japanese Spirit" (Yamato = Ancient Japan; Damashii = spirit, soul)

Overview:

Yamato Damashii is a word that was often used in World War Two by the Japanese imperial army to mean "fighting spirit (of Japan)" in order to motivate their fighting forces. Today it is used primarily by martial artists and ring fighters as a way to show their fighting spirit.

Doryoku - "Effort / Endeavor"

Literal Translation:

"Effort\; Endeavor\; Hard Working"

Overview:

"Doryoku", meaning "effort" or "endeavor", is an important ethic\/value of Japanese culture. The Japanese are known as perfectionists and it is the spirit of "doryoku" that often spurs them on.

Hisshou - "Must Win!"

Literal Translation:

"Certain Victory"\; "Must Win"

Overview:

"Hisshou", meaning "must win!" or "certain victory" is used most often for sporting events, and school entrance exams where students sport their "hisshou" headbands (also known as "hachimaki"). It is a testament to the single-minded drive to succeed and win challenges.

Mikkabouzu - "Short Attention Span"

Literal Translation:

"Cannot stick to anything for more than three days"; "no follow through"; literally word by word: "three day monk" (Mikka = Three Days; Bouzu = Buddhist Monk)

Overview:

If you're like me, you have such a short attention span you won't even finish this sentence...

Gokaku - "I Passed"

Literal Translation:

"Passing (Grade)", "Passed"

Overview:

In life hopefully we pass more than we fail. This design is good for trying to keep a positive mindset - even if you fail once in a while.

Toriaezu Biiru - Let's start with a beer

Literal Translation:

"Let's Start with a Beer" (Toriaezu = "for the time being"\/"first of all"; biiru = "beer")

Overview:

When you go to a bar or club and are not sure what you want - hell, just start with a beer. That's what this shirt is all about.

Overview:

Tired of Japanese coming up to you on the street asking you questions? Even if you hardly ever run into a Japanese person, it never hurts be prepared for such an occasion and wear the "I don't speak Japanese" shirt.

Jinrui Minna Kyodai - "We are all Brothers"

Literal Translation:

"We are all brothers" (Jinrui = Mankind; Minna = everyone; Kyoudai = brothers \[& sisters\])

Overview:

When it all comes down to it, we are all the same. We are brothers (and sisters).

Anata wa Bukimi - You are Weird

Literal Translation:

"You are weird / creepy" (Anata wa = You are; Bukimi = weird, eerie, creepy)

Overview:

Literal Translation:

OK, so you might not have a fat fetish, but isn't that pig cute? Also a great ice breaker for meeting Japanese people! If a Japanese person sees you wearing this shirt, they will no doubt laugh hysterically (or possibly avoid your gaze - depending on what you look like).

Kankoukyaku Desu - "I'm a Tourist"

Literal Translation:

"I'm a tourist" (Kankoukyaku = "tourist"; Desu = "I am")

Overview:

Ero Oyaji - "Dirty Old Man"

Literal Translation:

"Dirty Old Man" (Ero = "Nasty/Obscene"; Oyaji = "old man")

Overview:
